Digital Railway Station pilot at Chelyabinsk-Glavny is 92% ready for fully automatic operation

According to RZD Chief Engineer Valery Tanaev, the Digital Railway Station pilot at Chelyabinsk-Glavny is 92% ready for fully automatic operation.

Readiness of the Digital Railway Station pilot at Chelyabinsk-Glavny for fully automatic operation is estimated at 92%, RZD Deputy Director General and Chief Engineer Valery Tanaev said.

Comprehensive tests of all systems are under way at the station. Specialists are assessing interaction between 23 project modules and the completeness of information coming from adjacent systems.

During the tests, 38 information chains were completed successfully, including train arrival, pushing onto the hump, roll-down, placement and departure, along with 6 technological operations: securing and releasing a train through the signalman's mobile workstation, locomotive uncoupling and brake testing. Control of train approach to the station and arrival planning time were also checked.

During a station inspection, Tanaev reviewed a wagon uncoupling robot, remote control of a shunting locomotive from the operator's workstation and a comprehensive monitoring system. According to him, the project is intended to minimise human involvement, automate and robotise two-thirds of the work currently performed by employees and improve safety. The experience is planned to be replicated at other RZD network stations.
