Russia and China launch pilot rail shipments using electronic waybills

After work in 2025, the sides moved to pilot paperless shipments between Russia and China; initial batches of coal, fertilizers and consumer goods have already been processed with digital documents through the Grodekovo-Suifenhe border crossing.

The Eurasian Economic Commission's trade minister, Andrey Slepnev, spoke after a meeting of the Joint Commission on implementation of the EAEU-China Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation. He said work by the sides in 2025 had made it possible to move to pilot shipments using electronic waybills and paperless technology between Russia and China.

The first shipments of in-demand cargoes — coal, fertilizers and consumer goods — have already been launched through the Grodekovo-Suifenhe border crossing. Slepnev said he hoped a package of documents for similar shipments with Kazakhstan would soon be ready for signing.

The sides also noted progress in testing the exchange of electronic veterinary certificates in freight traffic between the EAEU and China. Slepnev proposed scaling the model for a full transition to electronic veterinary certificates and for integrating the electronic systems of the countries' competent authorities in the area of plant quarantine. They discussed transport connectivity, intended to develop transit from EAEU states through China toward Southeast Asian countries and agreed to organize relevant consultations.
