C.H. Robinson expands AI agents across freight forwarding and customs

The company says its AI agents now support ocean and air freight quoting, ocean booking requests and customs document processing, with additional regional rollouts planned through early 2027.

C.H. Robinson has extended its AI tools into global freight forwarding, covering ocean shipping, air freight and customs brokerage. According to the company, quoting that could take up to three days for an ocean shipment or a full day for air cargo now takes two to three minutes; the system has produced more than 80,000 quotes for over 3,600 customers.

The pricing technology began in 2025 for less-than-container-load ocean freight and has since expanded to full-container ocean freight and air cargo in Mexico, Europe, Latin America and Oceania. It is in pilot testing in China and is planned for Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East and Africa by the final quarter of 2026. AI agents now manage ocean booking requests with customer-specific context; that module launched in China in August and is expected to operate globally by early 2027.

In customs brokerage, the system classifies and assigns dozens of document types, extracts key data, flags missing paperwork and starts requests to obtain it. C.H. Robinson says this has cut processing time by 23%, leaving human brokers more room for complex compliance work.
