New access road section opened to Zabaikalsk border crossing

The new two-kilometre section runs parallel to the existing approach to the border crossing at the 484–486 km mark of the A-350 Chita–Zabaikalsk–China border highway. The project was built under the Infrastructure for Life national programme to separate freight and passenger flows, improve road safety and raise the capacity of approaches to Zabaikalsk.

The section has two lanes, widening to four near the checkpoint, and includes a 100-space parking area with sanitary zones. It also has 5.4 km of lighting, 1.8 km of sidewalks and intelligent transport elements: dynamic information boards, traffic-intensity monitoring posts, video surveillance and weather monitoring.

Road development is synchronized with a large-scale reconstruction of the Zabaikalsk checkpoint. Almost 290,000 vehicles passed through it last year, according to the report. After the first stage of construction, capacity is to reach 2,400 vehicles and 20,200 people per day. The first stage includes 108 new buildings and structures; the reconstruction is carried out under the Effective Transport System national programme.
